Wizard School and Performer’s Academy

Both programs focus on performing. Campers enrolled in these programs will work on creating an actual show to be presented at the end of the session. While most attendees choose to perform magic, others choose juggling, puppetry or comedy. Occasionally we get a camper who wants to be the MC of our show and some campers choose to focus on the technical side of theater (sound, lights, and set). There will be two Performer’s Academies and one Wizard School available during the summer of 2018.

Wizard School –

Session 1, June 4 - June 15

This program is open to anyone ages 10 – 18 who has a serious interest in performing magic. Participants do not necessarily need to have previous experience at Fantastic Magic Camp, but they should have a strong desire to learn and perform stage magic. The program includes workshops on stage presence, voice projection, staging, costuming, improvisational theater and of course magic, lots of magic. Campers can use tricks they already own, but they will also be taught new magic and have access to some of our larger magic props and stage illusions. The program will be under the direction of Peter Hinrichs (AKA Peter the Adequate). For the last 40 years, Peter has performed in the United States, Mexico, and Canada. He has created magic tricks and routines for other magicians including a few winning routines for magic contests. Campers will also get a chance to work with some of the professional entertainers who will be performing at the camp. This program runs from noon to 6:00 pm every day. For an extra $85 per week, campers can take advantage of the rest of our Fantastic Magic Camp experience and join us at 9:00 am every morning. To do so, just add the “Rehearsal Time” option when registering. Registration for this program is required. On the Registration page, choose the Wizard School option.

Performer’s Academy –

Session 2, June 18 - June 29

Session 5, July 23 - August 3

This program is open to any experienced camper (a camper who has attended two or more camp sessions) between the ages of 9 and 12. Campers in this program will take part in both the magic and juggling classes as usual, but instead of a puppet class, they will work as a group on creating a magic show, which will be presented at the end of the session. They will write their own script, choose what magic they want to perform, build props and create their own costumes. The program will be under the direction of Bertil Fredstrom (magician Black Bert). Bertil has performed in Europe and the US and has been a judge in some of the most prestigious worldwide magic competitions. Campers in this program will have access to some large-scale magic props and illusions. Campers will be given an option to sign up for this program on the first day of camp. There is no extra charge.
