The Fantastic Magic Camp
Information Team
The Fantastic Magic Camp is working on a new idea that will connect brand-new information technology (IT) professionals with training in teamwork, leadership, planning and implementation skills. The MCIT - Magic Camp Information Team - will bring the focus onto problems faced by Magic Camp and other non-profit organizations. The goal of MCIT is to train new professionals to be team members and leaders in the highly competitive field of IT. A valued team member not only has technical skills, but works well in teams and provides leadership when needed. The curriculum already developed by Magic Camp in its teen leadership training is the perfect basis for young professionals to learn these essential life skills while exercising their technical skills.
Magic Camp helps people learn life skills. This learning starts with the young campers attending Magic Camp. The counselor program for teens continues the education. Young adult staff members learn even more life skills and the practicalities of Magic Camp operations. Even senior staff members continue their education at Magic Camp. New IT professionals need this type of training in order to be successful in their careers. Like all members of the Magic Camp (campers, parents, counselors, and staff), these professionals would also contribute to making Magic Camp even more successful.
Like most other non-profit organizations, the Fantastic Magic Camp has a variety of IT problems and challenges, for example on-site camp. Typical users include teen-aged counselors, young adult staff members, parents, and volunteers, all with a wide range of skill levels. Intuitive and user-friendly programs must help these users use the programs and ensure that the information is input correctly.
Established professional IT support is expensive. Most non-profit organizations use volunteer support, which provides inconsistent quality. IT professionals who have just graduated provide an interesting solution to the dilemma of professional expense or reliance on volunteers. These people have sufficient technical skills to provide non-profit organizations, like Magic Camp, with useful solutions. They generally lack experience working in teams. They are also not given much leadership training. Schools focus on the technical training; they expect the newly graduated to learn team work and leadership on the job. The MCIT will be that job.
The MCIT Team Members, the new IT professionals, will provide IT services for Magic Camp and other non-profit organizations. In return, the Team Members receive a wage and additional training. The training covers team work, leadership, time management, iterative development, and communications. The MCIT staff will also provide project management and be mentors to the Team Members.
